windows and doors

closure is such a nice thing to have. the past few months have taught me, though it's something we all need, but may not often receive, that it is indeed a gift. i find myself feeling that a window in my mind, one that has been letting the warm and comforting environment of a clear and open space out into the wasteful void, has finally been shut. it's been open so long now, and i've been so cold, that i haven't felt a thing in months. with this window now shut, it's starting to warm up in here, i'm starting to understand exactly what's happening, and i'm starting to allow myself to channel it... to those responsible for shutting my windows, thank you, sincerely. in shutting one window, i can open doors. everything in this world is a cycle in some form or another. they all come at you at different times, in different forms, but i believe everything comes back around, and around, and around. this is not the end, or the beginning, these are but words with meaning attached. meant to signify a point in time, which is also just a word, with meaning attached. there is no past, or future, there is only now, and in this moment, the spiritual electricity surrounding me feels very much alive... again, thank you window shutters, and door openers alike. thank you.

started demoing a new song this morning called "flatlands call".. it will appear on the new EP that will be out early 2010, and i'm actually floored by the way it's turning out. things are looking up and sounding good.

i can't wait until some of what i've been working on is ready to be received. there's a lot of good things to come!

happy halloween!

over the next few weeks, we're going to be taking it easy, regrouping, and planning the recording of the next EP! soon we'll be traveling into the north GA mountains, to a log cabin nested in the woods, to record 4 or 5 new songs for a new EP, which is untitled as of now. the EP will be available digitally, but physical copies will be very limited... stay tuned for details and other updates!

post tour update

we've been home from tour for a few days, and i've been wanting to update here, but i've been pretty ill. i spent most of this past saturday in the hospital.. i had flu like symptoms for a few days prior, but i woke up saturday coughing up blood n guts. scary stuff. spent all day in the hospital getting bloodwork done, tubes down my throat, iv in my arm, the whole bit. all to find out that i have some nastu virus, which i just gotta let do it's thing til it'd gone. awesome..

anyway, i'm starting to feel better now, and i thought i'd give a little rundown of the shows on this tour...

shreveport - awesome venue, but the local canceled on us at the last minute, so there wasn't a soul in attendance. hah. it sounded great though, and was a good practice.

festival in rockdale - it had been raining for days before we got there, so the ground was nice and muddy for everyone... it was also pretty cold, which was unexpected. plenty of good times kickin' it with the cartright boys, smoke and feathers, ocha, dead meadow, and everyone else. sound was a little funny for us, and we were all feeling a little under the weather, but it was a good time!

houston - best show on this tour in my opinion! sound was good, folks were receptive and welcoming. houston's music scene seems to be on the rise.. really nice sunday afternoon vibe that day. thanks bohemeos!

lake charles - a joke. the venue wasn't prepared for us at all, and evidently didn't know we were coming, even though they booked us... also, later that night, we got a hotel in lafayette, which turned out to be a terrible idea. crackheads everywhere.. it wasn't just unsafe, we were being theatened.. so we left, and slept in the van at a loves for a few hours...

new orleans - pulled into town at 7 am, feelin' rough. spent the day bumming around, trying to get a little rest... finally got a hotel, took naps and showers, and went on to the show that night. king louie flipped out on the other band playing, so they left, weird vibes.. good show otherwise. saturn bar is a top notch establishment, go have a drink next time your in nola.

the drive home - got to see hank williams boyhood home in AL. also, montgomery flea market, the one of youtube fame. what a sad little flea market...

been recovering since we got home, but i'm feelin' better. fixing to start demoing some new material to release very soon. stay tuned!

and come to the drunken unicorn this saturday, the 24th... it's my first headlining show in ATL, and i'm playin with some top dollar bands from out west!

dog blog

so we're on tour, and we just woke up in tuscaloosa. last night was awesome. we have a good friend that lives here in town, so we drove here to hang out with her, and split up the long drive to shreveport.. we were going to publix to pick up some beer, and i ended up buying a puppy from some folks in the parking lot. our friend sara is going to take care of him until after tour. his name is hank!

i got blogged! i was asked recently to be a part of a blog called warmer climes. it's a beautiful little blog i've been a fan of for a while. they asked me to make a list of 10 of my most favorite songs, and the memories i attach to them. this was tough, and i could make a list of atleast 100 like this, but i think i narrowed it down pretty well... go check it out!
