insanity only exists in relation to others.

what a day

had an unexpected day off, but i made the most of it. spent the morning and early afternoon working on a demo of an older song, "in the dark", that somehow never managed to get recorded. it's coming along nicely. quite different than things we do live, but one of the best, and most personal, songs i've ever written, easily. it's one of those songs that i still have no idea how or when i wrote. one day it was just there in my little black book, and now i just try to respect it and do it justice as best i can... i do suspect it was around this time last year though.. also spent some time today working out some new ideas, hopefully those flesh out fully in the near..

spent the rest of the afternoon preparing a huge dinner of curry chicken, jasmine rice with mixed veggies, and a potato/carrot medley (haha).. fulfillment at it's finest.

after dinner, i went for a good long jog, and i feel great now.. settling down now for the evening with a glass of red and the last few chapters of "big sur"...

pm meditations

stop worrying so much about delivery. the point is that the package does get there. it is received. regardless of what shape it's in when it arrives. nothing is resolved. nothing gets resolved. just devoured. it's just like sugar, floating around in a tall glass of southern sweet tea, it never settles, and that's okay. it's more than okay. if it were to ever settle, that tea would be bad. the sugar is there to restlessly wander the glass, forever to drift through the caramel brown abyss, sweetening the taste for any lucky whoareyou who happens to sip from it. that's all anyone can do, and i don't think any of us can rightfully ask for anything more from anyone. all we can do is write it down, sing it, raving mad and feverish, and hope that there are some ears to receive it. to speak with as much intent as a traffic ticket, as much purpose as a natural spring, and as unambiguous as a blue sky, i think, is the only way we can know that we've done everything we can do. just throw it out, but do it with intent, purpose, and clarity. delivery is perception.

shake the night off. slip on your shoes, and put miles, and this city behind you. blue skies ahead, and a storm at your back. you still don't understand that storm. what happened? how long you were out? what any of it means? you just know that it's over. there's something else out there now, waiting to greet you. some other hurricane waiting to fuck with you, to send you home, to heal bones and wait again, only for the tide to roll back out, your cue to follow. you know this, but for now we are running from the storm. brilliant, and eternally doomed to go through life beached, drifting, beached, and drifting again, as eventually, this hurricane will once again capsize this ship, and send you home, below. no sleep til brooklyn? no, further on. may we all one day rest easily, with the cool breeze at our faces, the sun in our eyes, and good company at our side.

we're heading back up the coast to play a few dates in june. our good friend larkin grimm is getting married in nyc, and she asked us to come play the wedding party. we'll also be supporting and selling the new ep at these shows, as well as some new tank tops we just printed up.. here's a few dates. see you there!

the ep is all mixed and has been sent off to mastering. excited to get it all back and get the rest of the production underway!

crazy dreams today during an afternoon fiesta... note to self, don't go ghost hunting with chris and any female singers you really like in a weird little town in nevada. destruction to the max. morbid shit. no bueno...

however, i would love to return to nevada soon, as well as the rest of the west. hopefully next tour we'll point the big blue ox westward.

mix

today was productive. started demoing a new tune, currently untitled. and now, i'm trying to stay awake to finish up the final mixes for the ep. they're sounding siiiick. off to mastering tomorrow hopefully.. also, we start production on the cd sleeves and inserts this weekend. lots of stuff happenin'.. tour dates announced soon for june!
